Ministry
In August 2006, after eight years of ministry in Rome, we returned to Niamey,
Niger where Lilian and I had worked from 1995 to 1997. We are
serving with SIM International (Serving in Mission
- www.sim.org ).
Our ministry
is leading the Student Outreach
Center or, in French, Foyer
Évangélique Universitaire.
Currently the Center has a team of student volunteers from the
churches in Niamey and part-time missionaries. The team is very
dedicated to this strategic ministry. James' responsibility is to assist the team in accomplishing its objectives of
providing academic services to the only public university in
Niger and offering activities which allow students to know more
about Jesus, the Bible and Christianity. Niger is about 90%
Muslim, so most people know very little about
what Christians believe. The Center provides a relaxed environment
where students can ask questions about what the Bible teaches.
Here's a partial
list of what the Center offers:
Academic services: Language and
leadership courses; computer training with computer room; academic library; quiet places for personal
and group study; seminars regarding issues in
African society.
Leisure: Newspapers and magazines;
video room; games night; movies.
Christian information: Christian
library and tracts; concerts by local and foreign music groups;
question and answer evenings; films on Christian topics;
conversation about the Christian faith when desired.
If you would like to support this
strategic ministry, please contact us or the SIM office
in your country. Please indicate Student Outreach Center and the
project number which is NE 88960.
What else will we do in Niamey?
Besides the important
ministry at the Student Outreach Center we also have a heart to
help the churches in Niger in other ways:
1) Teach at the new Bible
College, ESPriT
(Ecole Supérieure
Privée de Théologie).
I teach in the area of New Testament. The school is located
right in front of our house!
2) Be active members of our church, preaching and teaching, helping and training for
Sunday School and camps, etc. |
